Memories from Aurora (Rori) Rincon Ritchie (daughter-in-law)

I know that Gisela loved her grandkids with a passion. When our first child was born (Avalon) on Nov. 5, 2003 there were a limited few that spent time with her. Grammy loved Avalon the minute she laid eyes on her.  She wanted to see her every chance she got and to spend time with the little princess. Avalon has always had a special connection with Grammy that will never be forgotten.

One of my favorite memories is when Grampy and Grammy rushed over because Avalon started taking her first steps. They wanted to be a part of Avalon's every firsts and I was able to take a picture of Grammy showing her pride when Avalon walked to her. This memory still brings tears to my eyes because of how excited and proud Grammy was of Avalon.

Here is a dialogue I recently had with Avi:

Mommy: "I know that you are sad that Grammy is gone but I want you try to remember what you did with Grammy that you loved. "

Avi: "I remember Grammy teaching me how to cross-stitch. Can we make a pillow that reminds me of Grammy so that when I miss Grammy I can hug it and think of her?"

Mommy: (trying not to cry at this point) "Yes sweetie, let's do that.  I'll go buy the materials and we can do it together."

Here are the two pillows we made in memory of Grammy. Avi cross-stitched (with a little help) the frame that we attached to the pillow. She also picked out the appliqués that we put on the pillows; a cat, a heart, crocheted roses and, a cupcake ('cuz Grammy loved her sweets). I added on the beading trim and the tassels on the 2nd pillow because Grammy loved those things.

Breny decided to be bored the whole time we made the pillows and had to jump all over Avi and me as we were trying to make the pillows. I, of course, had to make him two Star Wars pillows as well :P
